  • Preemptive strike. All overnight oats are champions in the meal prep world, and this decadent oatmeal recipe is no exception.

raw material

  • oatmeal are the standard oats for overnight oat recipes; they’re also called old-fashioned oats, and you can find them in the cereal aisle of your grocery store. Do not use instant or instant oats as the oatmeal will become mushy, and do not use steel cut oats as they cannot be cooked using this overnight oat method.
  • cocoa powder Less processed than unsweetened cocoa powder, retaining more nutritional value. So I use cocoa powder most often when I want to add chocolate flavor to my oatmeal recipes. It’s more bitter than cocoa powder, but the maple syrup and other flavors balance it out.
  • Chia seeds Add fiber, protein and omega 3 nutrients to this Almond Joy Overnight Oatmeal recipe while adding a creamy pudding-like texture.
  • Unsweetened Coconut Milk is my non-dairy milk of choice. You can also use almond milk, cow’s milk, or any milk.
  • pure vanilla The extract adds another layer of warm flavor to oatmeal.
  • Almond Extract Provides oatmeal with a subtle almond flavor that blends beautifully with chocolate and coconut.
  • pure maple syrup Necessary to balance the bitterness of cocoa powder. In most of my overnight oatmeal recipes I only need 1-2 teaspoons of maple syrup, but when using cocoa powder I tend to use a tablespoon of sweetener.
  • Almond Bars Or chopped almonds for a crisp.
  • unsweetened coconut taste and texture.
  • Dark Chocolate Chips, Mini Chocolate Chips or Cocoa Nibs Another bite of chocolate. To keep this recipe vegan, I recommend sticking with cocoa nibs.

cooking skills

  • Almond extract can be overwhelming, so be careful when using it. This recipe only calls for 1/8 teaspoon, a small drop. If you don’t have it, you can also leave it out and the recipe will still be delicious.
  • Make sure to stir the dry ingredients together Before adding the liquid; this prevents the cocoa powder from clumping after mixing the milk.
  • When putting the jars together, start with a teaspoon of pure maple syrupRiver. In the morning, add more maple syrup (one teaspoon at a time) until you reach your desired sweetness.
  • You can add 1-2 tablespoons of Greek yogurt for extra protein. This also gives the oatmeal its rich flavor.
  • Overnight oats will be thick in the morning; this is normal. The extra maple syrup will start to loosen the oats, but if you want an oat creamer, add a little more milk until you get the consistency you want.
  • Overnight oatmeal is served cold, But if you like to eat them hot, you can’t heat them on the stove or in the microwave.
  • Of course, almonds are my go-to nut in Almond Joy overnight oats, but you can use any nuts. Pecans would be delicious.
  • If you don’t have a mason jaryou can mix the ingredients into a bowl and cover with plastic wrap.
