If your headlights look a bit muddy, use this as a sign to clean them up. Believe it or not, it’s really not that difficult, and it can have a big impact on the overall appearance of your vehicle. Amazon Basic Masking Tape-$6.35

First, you need some masking tape to tape the area around the headlights. Any masking tape will do, but if you need to pick up a new roll of paper, this is as good as any tape.

Swan Isopropyl Alcohol-$7.76

You really have nothing to say about rubbing alcohol. Is it alcohol? Yes. Can you use it on headlights as part of the repair process? Right. Feel free to pick up these 16 ounces. Bottle or use any old rubbing alcohol you have around the house.

Micron’s Ultimate Polish-$12.99

Just like the composite part of your project, you can also use your favorite polish, but if you are looking for recommendations, this one is reliable. It is effective when used by hand or with a polishing machine, and should be able to remove the vortex and towel marks on the headlight well.

Last but not least, you need to spray some UV protective coating on the headlights to ensure that all your hard work for the headlights will not be wasted after a few days of sun damage. Place 1000 grit sandpaper on the foam block and move it left and right during the process, without circles, up and down, and no water. This is called dry sanding. You will notice that the skin of the dead lamp is peeling, leaving a white residue. This is normal, so don’t panic.

[00:01:00] Once the headlights are evenly polished from side to side, wipe or blow off the dust on the surface of the headlights. Any remaining dust may contaminate the next process, causing deeper scratches or haze, which may be a challenge to complete, so cleaning is very 1500 Grind on the foam block and spray sandpaper with water, then apply it to the lamp. Just a few quick sprays are enough. This is called wet sanding. Now move the paper up and down instead of moving left and right as in the first step.

It polishes the headlights to the point where they can be easily repaired with a machine.

[00:02:00] The polisher will obtain very fine markings from the headlights more consistently than by hand. So step by step manual refinement until the machine can be used is the safest way to complete this project. Next, use microfiber cutting mats or wool mats and your favorite compound to compound 3000 grit sanding marks on the headlights. This can be done with a household drill or a three-inch detailing machine. I chose to use a three-inch pneumatic device because I can use compressed air. After using the compound a few times, the headlight lens should look clearer.

[00:02:30] After thorough compounding, quickly polish the plastic with a foam pad and your favorite polishing agent to remove any superfine scratches left after the compounding step. Use the detail lights to check your work, or directly turn on the headlights themselves to get a better view of the lens. If everything is normal, wipe the headlights with rubbing alcohol to remove any oil stains or polishing agent residues in preparation for the final protective coating. After the process is completed, a UV protective coating should be applied to the lens immediately.

[00:03:00] Obviously, the original UV coating applied in the factory has faded, and any remaining things will be removed from the previous grinding step. Therefore, if no treatment is performed, the application of a new UV layer is essential to avoid hazy or yellow lenses in weeks or even days. Before applying any UV protection, be sure to read the instructions for the specific coating. Finally, apply a UV coating at a distance of 4 to 6 inches from the lens at a medium arm speed. Let dry for three to five minutes, then apply a second coat.
