Hyundai has started teasing the upcoming new model, which is being developed for emerging markets such as Southeast Asia and India. This is the Hyundai Stargazer, a compact three-row MPV said to be the replacement for the Mitsubishi Xpander, Toyota Veloz and the upcoming 2022 Perodua Alza.
The front-end images we’ve seen here show the Stargazer taking a lot of inspiration from its older sibling, the Hyundai Staria. It looks very futuristic, which could be a real plus point on the showroom floor.
The sleek futuristic shape continues to be seen in the side profile. The roof slopes down towards the rear of the car, giving it a sleeker, more aerodynamic profile than the Staria, which has a boxy rear end.
The door handles are located on the rear edge of the rear doors, which means it will have regular doors like the competition, rather than sliding-door compact MPVs like the Toyota Sienta.
We think it might be powered by some form of normally aspirated 1.5-litre engine driving the front wheels, just like its rivals – likely a 1.5-litre SmartStream engine producing 115 PS and 144 Nm of torque.
What do you think of the new Hyundai Stargazer we’ve seen so far, could it be a serious competitor to the popular Mitsubishi Xpander?
