With the second season of “Ted Lasso” coming out on July 23, this is an important week for Jason Sudeikis, but his mind is still on one of the major stories in global football this week .

Sudeikis appeared at the premiere of “Ted Lasso” in West Hollywood on Thursday, wearing a T-shirt with the words “Jadon & Marcus & Bukayo” on it. These are the names of three English football players who suffered online racist abuse after England lost to Italy in the 2022 European Cup final.

The England team was defeated in a penalty shoot-out and did not switch in the last three kicks. Three black players Marcus Rashford, Jaden Sancho and Bukayo Saka stood up to catch them .

After the game, the three players became targets of racist abuse on social media platforms Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. The police have since arrested four people in connection with these posts.

This week, each of the three players made a strong statement, describing their feelings and thanking them for their great support.

The English Football Association, other players, clubs and government officials are the main voices condemning online hatred. Sudeikis is the latest high-profile voice, adding his name and platform to those who speak.

“They heard a lot of unnecessary nonsense from unnecessary people,” Sudekis told The Associated Press. “Just yell at them to let them know that even in the United States, we have our own problems with what they are going through, and let them know that they are not alone.”
