The starting lineup for the NASCAR Cup series to be held at the Michigan International Speedway on Sunday was determined by applying the statistical formula used by NASCAR in most of the 2022 cups.

The starting position of the FireKeepers Casino 400 drivers (3pm EST; NBCSN, TSN, MRN, SiriusXM NASCAR Radio) is based on four factors:

  • The finish position of the driver in a race (25%)
  • Owner’s last race finish ranking (25%)
  • Team owner points ranking (35%)
  • The fastest lap of the previous race (15%)

NASCAR will qualify for eight cup series in the 2022 season. Seven of these games have already started; the remaining one is the end-of-season tournament 4 game held at Phoenix Speedway in November.

The following is the starting lineup for the NASCAR Cup series on Sunday at the 2-mile oval at Michigan International Speedway without qualifying.

Who won the pole position of the NASCAR race in Michigan?

According to the NASCAR formula, Kyle Larson topped the list. He finished third in the last race, Verizon 200 at the Brickyard circuit of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. With the remaining two regular season games, he also took over the series lead from Denny Hamlin.

Larson’s Hendrick Motorsports teammate Chase Elliott will join him. Elliott finished fourth at Brickyard, which was his 11th time in the top five this season. Larson leads all drivers with 13 top five places.

Drivers on the playoff bubble will not be too close to the front line. Kevin Harvick is eighth, Tyler Reddick is 14th, and Austin Dillon is 26th. However, starting from eighth place may not matter to Harvick, because he won the last three games in Michigan.

Matt DiBenedetto will finish fourth after finishing fifth in Indy. A victory was his ticket to the playoffs because he was 145 points behind the 16th place Redick in the standings. After the Wood Brothers Racing team replaced him with Harrison Burton for the 2022 season, DiBenedetto is also fighting for a job.
