A Cambridge watering hole famous for its pizza is saying goodbye to decades.

The Newtowne Grille in the city’s Potter Square area will be closed this weekend, with Saturday expected to be its last day of operation, according to an article in Cambridge Day. The old-fashioned bar, which dates back to the mid-1960s, was closed for several months due to the coronavirus outbreak in March 2020, but reopened shortly before Thanksgiving that year.

Cambridge Day said the people behind Sugar & Spice, which is on the same block, will take over the Newtowne Grill space, where a new Asian concept will be launched.

The Billerica location at Newtowne Grill appears to be continuing to operate.

The address for the closing Newtowne Grill in Porter Square is 1945 Massachusetts Avenue, Cambridge, MA, 02140. Its website is at https://www.newtownegrille.com/
