HubSpot blog research shows that YouTube has the highest usage of video marketers among the social media platform, surpassing TikTok and Instagram. It’s also where marketers are investing the most this year.

With so much emphasis on the platform, we wanted to know what times and days publishers saw the best results.

Read on to learn about our findings.

Creating videos for YouTube is no easy task. First the idea, then the script, then the shooting, and finally the editing – it’s just high level. Imagine doing all this work just to upload a video that doesn’t have much traction.

When you first start, you are bound to struggle. However, if you’ve been using it for a while and you’re still not getting any traction from your videos, your upload time could be the culprit.

We surveyed and asked more than 300 marketers in the U.S. for our Social Media Trends report,”When is the best time to post on YouTube?

First, our report shows that the majority of marketers surveyed said they post on YouTube Four to six times a week – as much as they post on Instagram, TikTok, Reddit and many other social platforms.

The only platforms respondents posted on a daily basis were Facebook and Twitter.

While other social media platforms offer myriad formats to engage audiences, from ephemeral content and feed posts to polls and livestreams, some argue that YouTube has been slow to expand its formats.

Given this, it’s a little surprising how often marketers post on the platform, especially since it’s long-form content that tends to require more time and effort.

Now for the good stuff: the best time to publish on the platform.

Here is the breakdown:

  • 31% of respondents said 6pm to 9pm
  • 23% of respondents said 3pm to 6pm
  • 19% of respondents said 12 noon to 3 pm

As for the best day, the data shows it’s the weekend, with Saturday being the most popular answer, followed by Friday, then Sunday.

One way to explain this is that weekends give consumers more time to explore the platform and dig into their favorite content.

Other video platforms, such as TikTok and Instagram, focus on short-form content, making it easy for consumers to get what they need during their breaks throughout the day. However, YouTube requires more time investment.

When is the best time to post on YouTube?

Wondering when not to post on the platform? According to our Social Media Trends report, Mondays are not that popular among marketers.

Only 5% of marketers surveyed said Monday is the best time to post on a video platform. The second least popular day is Tuesday, followed by Wednesday.

As for timing, here’s the breakdown:

  • 6 am to 9 am
  • 9pm to 12am (midnight)
  • 9am to 12pm

Less than 20% of respondents said that posting in the early morning (6am to noon) works best.

Does the time you post on YouTube matter?

The answer to this question is yes and no. Yes, the time you post on YouTube in the short term is important as it affects the number of views your video gets in the first few hours.

Optimizing your views during this time can help you drive more traffic to your content and help your channel grow.

However, in the long run, it didn’t make a big difference. Assuming your video is posted at 3am, this has little or no impact on the number of views it gets over the next few months or years.

Unlike platforms like Instagram, where fresh content is the key to success, novelty isn’t the biggest ranking factor on YouTube—relevance is.

This means that even though your video may not perform well at first, it can quickly gain traction if it is the most relevant to a user’s query.
